Teaching Nutrition to Families
Fighting Malnutrition in Guatemala
The municipality of Palín has faced high rates of child malnutrition. In response, Global Hunger Relief funds provided food supplies, supplements, and vitamins, leading to an 89% reduction in acute malnutrition. The project opened doors for the local church to minister to some of the most vulnerable families in the community. As a result, both physical health and spiritual transformation are now taking place in the community.

As local churches in Guatemala host nutrition training programs to serve families, doors have opened for them to share the gospel. One mother shared her story:
“I am grateful to God for another day. Today, I had a consultation with my baby, Isaías. I thank God for all the help we have received, especially from the pastor with our groceries. My child was admitted with acute malnutrition when he was 6 months old and was discharged at 1 year and 4 months. … Until today, they have provided us with milk, vitamins for the baby, iron, folic acid, and many other things. At home, they told me it would be difficult for my child to walk due to his condition, but thanks to God, with all the vitamins, help, and support, my child walked before the month was over.”
